Take the first two digits of the year's date and then add one. For example, it's 2006. The first two digits are 20. Add 1 for the 21st century. It seems a century off because the first 100 years of the calendar (year 0 to year 99) are called the first century.

the century in the phrase 21st century, etc. is the next century mark (2100) because you can't have lived in the 0th century, it was the first century. thus the 19th century was the 1800s, 20th century was the 1900s, etc.
