Well i live in Alabama where most people have only like taken two classes of spanish.
And honestly i don't know that much about Mexico and united states relationship.Thought i know that the immigration is a big deal.Honestly i am not sure if they really teach their students english in mexico.
Also i don't necessarily think that either Mexico or the United States be the one and take some action and bring us together.
Honestly thought it would be interesting to see what everyone would say.

Um...we DO teach spanish in American schools. It's just not a required class. Why should we HAVE to learn their language when it's them coming over here? All the rest of our ancestors had to learn English. My ancestors from Ireland, Switzerland, Germany had to learn English. What makes these people so great that we have to adapt to fit them? And the reason why we have soldiers in Iraq is because they had a tyrannical dictator ruling over them and not letting them have true elections and deciding on their own leaders. Mexico does have elected officials, but instead of fighting their governments corrupted actions, they just come over here. And their government helps them do it. Mexico has the tools to fix their country, but not enough of the people are using them. The Iraqi people had the tools and weapons taken away from them.

We need to make ENGLISH our National language and Eliminate all this BS about Americans having to learn Spanish. Should I ever Sneak into Mexico and Steal a Job I'll Learn Spanish. Not one second before.

I think that America is strengthening it's relationship with Mexico. I just think we're doing it very slowly and using the wrong approach. I also think we should strenthen our relationships with other neighboring countries.
I dont see how teaching languages helps in the relationship between countries though.
I took Spanish in the fifth grade, sixth, seventh, eight, ninth and tenth.
Anyway back to the relationship thing. Mexico, like America refuses to take any real steps in helping their neighbor.

It is not up to the United States to fix Mexico. It's up to the people of Mexico to fix Mexico. We are two separate countries. The United States has enough problems to fix internally.

To what end? It's harsh, and anti-humanitarian, but Mexico doesn't have anything we want. Besides, now isn't a good time. Mexico is on the verge of a civil war itself, and we don't want to cozy up to the current government just to have them toppled by another one who would use that against us. Right now, we stand back and see how things play out.

um, i don't know about where YOU live, but in my school system, spanish is a mandatory language k-8, and my high school offers it too.

and why should we help mexico? we are really only in iraq for the cash (which we aren't even getting)

what would we gain from a strong tie with mexico? didn't we do enough when we supported their rebellion from spain?

why does the US insist on being the mommy country that has to rush over to every country that falls and scrapes its knee?

Why doesn't Mexico try to strengthen ties with the US by teaching English in its schools? Why is it up to the US?

We are giving Mexico 68 Billion dollars a year in aid in education, health care, welfare, criminal justice alone. And you are asking for more? Leave my country, I can't afford the like of you.

Why don't mexicans stop breaking our laws?
Why don't mexicans stay home and try to make a better life where they are instead of raping my tax dollars and trying to change my language?
