Then do you really want to get married? If things are great now why try to fix something that is obviously not broken?

I had a friend who was with a guy over 10 years and she fianlly popped the question, they went to pre-marital counseling and realized they had different expectations of marriage. So they didn't get married they are still together and live together they are just not going to get married.

Yeah, I think 14 years is a little too long for a marriage proposal. But it doesn't seem like you're looking to get married anyway - so, it works out!

It depends on the couple. some couples choose to never get married but say bf/gf forever. Others rush into marriage and end up getting a divorce. This is something the two of you need to discuss and decide where you want the relationship to go.

Then don't change things if you think marriage will.
And indeed 14 years is a long time for a marriage proposal.

14 years together without a marriage proposal may be indicative of a lack of an real intention to tie the knot.
But hey, if I can keep my girlfriend living with me without turning over half of my net worth, I will.

If the proposal runs over 10 or 15 minutes......that is too long!
