It would have to have been Xmas. It was just after the war and we didn't have very much.
But my older sister was dating an American GI and he spent Xmas with our family. He brought all kinds of lovely presents.
I received a beautiful doll, with real hair, porcelain face and blinking eyes. I was ecstatic. I will never forget that gift.

I can not only remember it - I still have it! Shhhhh...keep it secret. My dad was in the army and was gone much of the time. When I was about 3-4 years old he was in Germany and my mom, sister and me stayed with my grandparents. My dad always called me a little monkey, and so he bought a little stuffed monkey and sent it to me. He had already given me a bigger one that I named Toto which I don't remember receiving (but I still have him, too). The package came by mail and I remember opening it and finding Little Toto. I was so happy. Mostly cause I loved my dad to pieces and missed him so much. Both little monkeys are in a box in my garage and they are so old that they are actually stuffed with some type of straw, not the foam and such of newer toys.
It wasn't a special occassion, my dad just saw it and wanted to send it to me. I'm glad he did.

I was four. It was a "Baby One Step" doll. She was about a foot tall and could stand. You flipped a switch on her back and she would "toddle." You could also put these little plastic roller skates on her feet and she'd skate. I loved that doll so much. I guess I wanted to be like my mom back then and felt now I had someone to take care of. :)

There's a black and white photo in my 360 page album of me and my Great Grandad sat on a bench together. He's holding a doll... I think it was my birthday. It's the first prezzie I ever remember, and he's the only one of my great grandparents I remember too. Thank god for photos eh? "Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you..." :-)

I remember opening a Barbie Camper for Christmas one year, only because my brother made me ask for it.
In trade I got to use his BB gun.
