Because hypocrisy is a cardinal sin in an elected official.
There's no wrong in being gay and in liking young flesh (if above age of consent), but when you do, you don't get elected for the GOP and spout stuff about morality, and sin and being a good christian and whatnot. If you're gay and really christian, you spend your life as a monk or hermit, or get your things cut off so you won't sin.
