I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE IN MY LIFE. I HAVE SEVEN CHILDREN AND THREE OF THEM WERE C-SECTIONS. THAT IS SOMETHING THAT NEED TO SERIOUSLY BE QUESTIONED.

A "general anesthetic", is not the norm, given time, a spinal, (anesthesia given at a certain nerve level of the spine) is preferred.
Usually, the least amount of anesthetic to do the job, is what is done. Having a "general" has more potential risks, but the answer cannot be given unless all elements are taken into consideration, was there an increase in fetal stress, intensity of labor, prenatal care, and other agreements/understandings made before surgery. Ultimately, the choice rests on what the anesthesia provider determines to be the most effective, with the least risk.

Emergency c-sections are sometimes under gernal anesthesia. I don't know why they would have done an emergency one though if they knew in advance the baby was breech. Maybe there was another factor involved.

I had the samething done, since it was an emergency she had to be knocked out since they didn't have time for epidural to block the pain. I had both of my children c sections, and both times emergency. First one was 11 pound 9 ounces, second one the epidural didn't take. I was knocked out both times.

jeez i dont think thats normal i had an emergency c-section as well but it didn't consist of knocking me out.. it was just fast quick and in a hurry.. although i did have a allergic reaction to the anesthesia i was still at least partially awake.. i think she needs to ask some questions to be sure of the reason they did that..

I've had 2 c sections
1 was an emergency, and I was put under
1 was planned, and had a spinal block
maybe there's just different procedures depending on the situation

I had a spinal block for my C section and was awake while they did the whole thing. I was so excited and talked so much that I'm sure they wished I was asleep under general anaesthesia. LOL

no, it's not common and there is nothing emergency about being breech. i have no idea why they did this to her. i've never had a c-section, but i have watched a million emergency c-sections on tv and they never did that to any of them.
