How To Celebrate Mickey's Birthday
On November 18, 1928 a legendary duo was born, as Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse made their debut in the animated short Steamboat Willie. Over the years they have delighted millions around the world. As they celebrate 76 years we offer a variety of ways to celebrate Mickey's birthday, hopefully Minnie won't mind too much that we focus on her main squeeze.
Enjoy a Mickey Feast
Kick off your celebration of Mickey's birthday with Mickey Mouse waffles (click here for recipe) or Mickey Mouse pancakes. If you prefer eggs for breakfast shred some cheese and sprinkle it over an omelet. Sneak some cheddar bits for a snack or a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. You could get really fancy and dine on Disney's Mickey-roni and Cheese which features Mickey Mouse shaped pasta.
Dress for Mickey's Birthday
Be bold, throw on your favorite Mickey Mouse t-shirt under that suit jacket or wear a Mickey Mouse tie. Perhaps you have a Mickey Mouse pin or earrings. If you prefer to dress like Mickey, dig out your mouse ears, a black tee, red shorts, yellow shoes and a pair of white gloves.
Relive Classic Moments
Watch the brand new Twice Upon a Christmas or recently release Three Musketeers. For classic Mickey moments, pull out the Disney Treasures tin of Mickey shorts. Be sure to catch the highlights including Mickey's premiere Steamboat Willie and his first color cartoon The Band Concert. Perhaps you have old family movies of Disney's Mickey Mania parade or copies of classic tv shows like the Mickey Mouse Club. You get extra credit if it features Mouseketeers Kelly, Angel and Pop.
Explore the theme parks and hotels
If you are fortunate enough to live near the theme parks, you have a variety of options open today. You can search high and low throughout the theme parks and hotels for Hidden Mickeys. At Disneyland, stop by the Main Street Cinema or at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom stop by Exposition Hall to view classic Mickey shorts. Enjoy Animal Kingdom's Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade. At Disneyland, the Plaza Inn birthday celebration offers a chance to decorate your own cake and sing to the big cheese himself. But he'll also appear in Mickey's Birthday cavalcade or perhaps you'll find him hanging around his Toontown home. If you stick around until evening at Walt Disney World you can catch Mickey directing Fantasmic's fireworks.
Celebrate with Energy
Celebrate by showcasing your "cool moves" with Dance Dance Revolution Disney Mix. Their hopping remix of the Mickey Mouse Club March is sure to get your heart pumping.
Salute with Music
As you drive around the town fill your car with the sounds of a Mickey Mouse celebration. The obvious choices include the Mickey Mouse Club March and Minnie Yoo Hoo. But don't forget to drop in Classical Silly Songs to enjoy Mickey and Minnie's duet about bake sale goodies. For some Latin rhythms there's Livin' La Vida Mickey. Westerns more your speed? Disney's Pardners features Mickey and the gang singing classic tunes like Don't Fence in Me, A Cowboy Needs a Horse and other. For those in a more patriotic mood, on the album Yankee Doodle Mickey our favorite mouse sings about the Flag, our armed services and more. From Tokyo Disneyland the song "It Started with a Mouse" reminds us that "Mickey's the one who waves the wand, taking the magic above and beyond." Perhaps you still have character albums Mickey Mouse Disco and Rock Around the Mouse. The latter invites you to "do the Mickey Motion". The classic Happy, Happy Birthday to You song is featured on Disney's Splashdance and the anthem Hey Mickey! is part of the Totally Minnie album.
Treat Yourself with Stories
Stop by your local comic book store and pick up the latest Disney comic featuring Mickey's adventures. Perhaps you could sift through your boxes of collectibles and review the commemorative Mickey is Sixty magazine with a celebrity salute including Ray Bradbury, Bob Hope, Hayley Mills, Robin Williams, Steven Speilberg and others. The cover features a portrait of Mickey by Andy Warhol inside the magazine was an animation cel of Mickey as Sorcerer Mickey.
Connect with Friends
Send your Disney friends an e-card celebrating Mickey's birthday or perhaps an antenna ball bouquet is more appropriate. Select a variety of the Mickey shaped antenna toppers, place them on straw or sticks of varying heights and set them in a tall vase for a unique gift to honor the Mouse. For a really big surprise, send your Mickey fan friend a tasty cheese wheel.
Hidden Mickeys in your own home
Wander your own home and count the Mickeys that dot your decor. I was surprised to discover that standing in my little apartment kitchen I spotted 19, that's not including the 100 Mickeys mug collection that sits atop my stove.
Create a Hidden Mickey for Disneyland's Birthday
Stop by www.Disneyland.com/photos and participate in their happiest faces event. As part of Disneyland's upcoming 50th birthday, guests are invited to mail or email their family photos from trips to Disneyland. There is no entry fee involved. The pictures will be grouped together to create large murals of classic Disney film moments. Imagine a super-sized poster of the Hitchiking Ghosts made up of thousands of smaller images of Disneyland guests over the years. You have the opportunity to create your own hidden Mickey. Find a picture of your family in mouse ears or with the big cheese himself. Upload a copy of the picture via their website or mail it in and voila! instant hidden Mickey. Disney will send you a note with the general location of your photo so family and friends who visit Disneyland next year will be able to locate your photo.
Happy Birthday Mickey!

Heavens to Betsy, that guy is an institution! Why not? If they can celebrate the 100th birthday of the founding father, why not give the mouse his 78th?

Mickey normally grabs a bottle of Cheddar Schnapps and hits up Minnie for a "little tail". That's pretty much it, anymore....
