Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.

Video is part of their mission statement. And having the second largest Free video directory they took over the Largest One. You Tube got famous and more trendy then google with its mass appeal and content approval. Getting your video up on YouTube is much easier than Google. And Google was made to make our lives easier. So for video they bought something that was better than them.

Something which Microsoft never did and now is looking around the ways to beat Google, Yahoo, Apple, IBM and everybody who are far ahead from them in technology and user experiance.

Google have deep pockets and have bought arguably the most popular website on the web. YouTube the default for video and user generated content, has a significant number of unique visitors and was crying out for one of the big boys to step in and work out how it was going to monetise all of the eyeballs which visit it everyday.

Google Video was always going to struggle to match YouTube, so why not buy it?

Youtube is already an established site, with potential for expansion and profit. This was a no-brainer type of deal for Google.
