He seems a practical, down to earth, sincere guy, with a calming tone; on the surface not much to object to. For people who vote based upon sound bites, he probably looks like a good presidential candidate.

There is a manner about him that leads me to question the underlying rationale for some of his positions. Recently, and significantly, voting to bar the use of habeas corpus for United States citizens gives me pause.

He occasionally is unable to control his temper. On the other hand, the Bush campaign did him real dirty in South Carolina, but he has sucked up to the administration since.

It's as if he feels himself the heir apparent to the base if he stays in line with the philosophy, and he avoids statesmanlike conduct unless consistent with praying at the altar of the administration.

I look forward to his candidacy for the nomination so that his history and positions can be disected. I'm not yet ready to settle on a nominee.

Being slick and evasive worked for Clinton.

My biggest problem with him is he reminds me too much of Howard Dean.

He just doesn't come off as someone friendly and generous to me. He seems like he is a politician for personal reasons (to effect change for his sake vs for the sake of wanting to serve others and effect change for them). He doesn't seem like a leader, he seems more empty. And I don't mean like he tows the party line, I mean like he has some issues and he is in politics because of them. I don't know why I say that, I know nothing about the man. He just seems to have his own agenda, which I guess is better than him just being aligned with a party. I just don't feel like he has any idea what matters to me. I think I base that partially on the fact that all these congressman and senators spend their time arguing about timely issues that appear in the press (in his case torture rules) rather than focusing on problems and solutions that aren't in the public eye.

I'd have loved to seen him do something that forces government to spend their time (which we pay for) on us and not their esoteric political battles that only politicians and parties care about. He seems to be just another poliitician living inside the vacuum of the beltway focusing on problems politicians care about and people don't.

No I would not like to see him on the ticket. If he ends up on the ticket I would probably not vote for him unless I felt he was lesser of two evils.

The two people that seem the best possible candidates so far would be Condy and Rudy. Both seem very articulate, rational, and seem to sidestep party games in favor of leading.

Aside from them the only other two politicians I have been impressed with I think are Marc Ginsberg and Barack Obama, but Barack seems too good to be true. Barack is really well spoken as is Marc but there's something too cool and calculating about Barack. Something I don't fully trust in him, though I can't put my finger on it.

I like him because he isnt as anal as most Republicans. As America's longest POW in captivity, he knows that messing with the Geneva convention is wrong. He also knows how to deal with countries and not pi**ing them off to the point of creating a "nucular" weapons program....

Are there republicans left in a world working toward an increase in literacy?

Well, I like the fact that I've never seen him picking his nose in public. Though he flip flopped on the torture thing only means that he is more politician than human. I also like the fact that maybe he won't be running for office this year........

I know you said "Republicans only please" but here I am anyway.

I will never forgive him for caving on the issue of torture. Never. He's lost all credibility with me. (Well, he lost a lot of it carrying water for the freaks who stole my country, but this is the last straw -- the man has NO integrity.)
