This question was just asked at a quiz and they said the answer was times they are a changin all though I am sure this is not true. I could swear that Blowin in the wind was a single before this if not something else.

Andy B is right. 'Mixed Up Confusion' b/w 'Corinna Corinna' was his first single released in US, France and Netherlands but never (as a single) in the UK. His first UK hit single was 'Times they are a changin' and I'm pretty sure that was also his first UK single. 'Blowin in the Wind' was not released by Dylan as a single.

"Blowin' in the Wind" and "Don't Think Twice" were both on his second album, "Freewheelin'", so I'd go with one of those. "The Times They Are A'Changin'" came out the following year (1964). His first album, "Bob Dylan" released in 1962 was mostly covers.

Bob's first ever single was released in the USA in 1962 and was called "Mixed Up Confusion". He had recorded earlier tracks and albums under the name "Blind Boy Grunt", but "Mixed Up Confusion" was the first as Bob Dylan.

"The Times They are a changing", is correct. " Blowing in the wind", although written and recorded by Dylan, was a single hit for Peter, Paul and Mary.
