Most of the people above won't have ever used a Mac but are just biased towards using Windows. In relation to the 'wait for Vista' comment, Vista will be able to run on a Mac with a program 'Bootcamp' available with Apple's next operating system.

I would buy a Mac, Vista still has it'sawful system directly clogged with .dll files.

I have just pucrhased the £999 Mac but added more RAM and video RAM so it ended up being nearer £1200. I really would recommend buying a Mac, Apple is an innovative company that is constantly moving forward with its products (hardware and software), XP was released 5/6 years ago without any major update.

So, now we're off the Windows vs. Mac argument. The specifications for the 17inch Mac are less than that of the 20inch. If you were to customise the 17inch so it has the same specifications as the 20 (the same processor etc.) there is only about £60 in the price. I would say go for the best specifications as you can afford, which means more RAM as programes in the future will only become more demanding, upgrading your mac now will allow it to stay fully functionable for years to come. Of course, it depends what you're doing and plan to be doing with your Mac. (If video editing etc. I recommend more RAM and a faster processor).

The Mac is just amazing and I seriously would recommend to you that you buy one. It's the type of thing that you're constantly discovering new and innovative features within it that you instantly love.

If you need any more info give me a shout.

Hmm a the above answers obviosly like an operating system that crashes alot.

I would go for the £999 one as it has a bigger screen, better spec and you may not know this but is easier to upgrade!

The 20" allows for more desktop space, so if you routinely have 2 or more apps that you use on a daily basis. Having the extra desktop space will make multi-tasking easier.

The only significant differences are the screen sizes. Do you want a 17 or 20 inch screen?

It really depends on what you're using it for.
If you're using it for home, go with the cheaper one.

If you're using it for college, work, video editing, etc. get the more expensive one.
