Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Where the heart is by Billie Letts

Of course, don't forget the Harry Potter series and the Chronicles of Narnia.

So you're 16 and asking questions like you're 5. What you need to do is read anything that you can understand without having to go to the dictionary every 10 minutes. I am sure that you, in reality, understand a lot more than what other people give you credit for knowing. Therefore, it would be in your best interest just to read what appeals to you and forget about what adults and your peers tell you you should read and just read what you want to read.

Read S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. It's a well written classic. Also, Lord of the Flies and The Count of Monte Crisco.

You should definitely read Looking for Alaska by John Green. It is one of the best books. It has its funny moments as well as its serious ones. But above all else it really captures a strong friendship.

I don't know any specific ones, but you can always read stories in the "Chicken Soup for the Teen Soul" books, there's different categories for the stories.

Anything by Gary Paulsen is good. I also loved "The Gospel According to Larry." It's funny and clever, about a kid who anonymously starts a website that becomes hugely popular all over the country.

there's alway Harry Potter, sorry I'm not much help, but most books I read have a feminine central character, Chronicles of Narnia have teenage boys in them, I've drawn blanks for brains, my most humble apologies,

Our Young Adult Librarian has been recommending Twilight by Stephanie Meyer.
If you want more suggestions, you may want to ask the Young Adult Librarian at your local public library. He/she probably has lots of good ideas for you.
You could also ask at your high school librarian to give you some ideas, too.
