no polygamy is not a bad thing at all!!!
as americans, we have the right to live the way we want as long as we are not hurting others!!!
the law has no right what so ever to tell us any different!!!!
polygamy can be a beautiful thing, if it is not taken for granted!!!
i have a friend who is a third wife with ten stepchildren and four children of her own and she is very happy!!!!!
happiness is in the eye of the beholder..... and so is right and wrong, good and evil....
what is considered to be good to one person might be considered evil to another...
what is considered to be wrong to one person might be considered to be right to another.... its just all about perspective, the way you look at things and how you choose to judge them!!!

The Christian church believes that 1 man and 1 woman are to be married. America was founded on those beliefs and many other countries as well. This is a case where state and church are not divided. Legally you cannot be married to more than one person. You cannot take religion out of this question since the law coincides with the beliefs of the bible. Humans were not designed for monogamy. They are animals, yet they have a conscience. The conscience is what is supposed to separate the "man" from the "beast". The conscience dictates what is right and wrong according to society's laws. Regardless of what country you are from the laws of your country dictate your society. In your opinion polygamy is not bad. What if your grandmother had two husbands instead of your grandfather having two wives? What if your mother had two husbands? Would you still feel the same way? All things should be equal.

Polygamy usually gets started out of a need. In the past, a village of men go off to war and most of the did not come back. Now women can support themselves in most modern societies so I don't see a need for it. In the USA, most complaints about polygamy come from psychological abuse. I know a group a men had a class action lawsuit against the Mormon Sect because they were raised up in polygamous relationships. Their complaint was that at age 13-15, they were thrown out of the house and force to make it on their own, with minimal education, because their fathers had to make room for all the new wives and new children.

For men to have more wives, yes. He knows they are his children. There are actually more women out there than men without a partner.
Women get tired from raising small children and could use the break. What if the other wife is a good cook and a great friend? Seems a good thing. Plus, he's less likely to stray from home.
For women, well, we all know that the extra husbands would fight and not know who's kid is whose and guys wont become great friends nor share the housework or the one wife having to tend to two men in all ways...she'd die very young!

Most studies lead us to think of polygamy as a solution to number of females in the world its "1 to 4" for each male there is 4 females.

for most of human history polygamy was considered right correct and normal, it even says so in the bible....but societies change over time.....if your particular society looks down upon it you would be considered "wrong" for doing it. but as others have mentioned..as long as everyone involved is an adult and not forced what difference does it make? Marriage is really just a civil property contract

I wouldn't care as long as young girls weren't forced into the lifestyle before the age of consent. In some communities that doesn't happen, but in most of these separtist groups, women are abused, girls are forced into marriage, and young men (competition) are run out of town to save the young girls for the elders. As long as these types of practices go on, polygamy doesn't offer me any reason to think it is a good thing.

I think that if it were just a choice and everyone involved would be there on their free will, then to each his own. Unfortunatly, the women involved are practically sold to the Husband at an early age by their parents. They usually have no choice in anything and live a miserable life. They have to run away to get out.

In all honesty, polygamy is a potential can of worms. For one thing, it would be difficult to not have at least one "favorite" among your spouses. And could you treat them all equally then, that being the case? Further, it would be of great injustice to the less favored spouses to keep them married to you, when they could otherwise have happier lives with different people.

I'm not sure that it's as horrible as people think but in this culture, you will be an outcast and that is pretty bad. My biggest problem with most polygamists isn't how many wives they have. It's that they marry such young girls and rule over them with an iron fist. I don't think a man can handle more than one wife if he treats them as his equals.
