From what I gather, it is a virus that my anti-virus cannot remove. Does anyone know how to do it?

Unfortunately, you are a victim of what is called "browser hijacking." It is very common for spyware and adware to change a browser's homepage and default search engine. Usually, the goal is to bombard you with ads from their sponsers. To uninstall any changes, you will need to download and install a antispyware software program. I recommend Spybot Search & Destroy. The program is completely free and is very good and restoring homepages and default search engines. You can download it at: http://www.filehippo.com/software/antispyware/

On the same webpage, you will also find other very popular antispyware programs. The free ones include: Lavasoft's Ad Aware, SpywareBlaster and Windows Defender beta 2. All are great products and you can install all of them on the same computer, provided you only scan one at a time.

Once you have downloaded Spybot, you need some instructions on how to use it. There is an excellent guide at:

"How to effectively remove Malware using Spybot Search & Destroy-Part 1 Installation" --written by malwarehelp.org
(http://www.malwarehelp.org/how-to-effectively-remove-malware-spybot1.html)

Good luck. If you have any further questions, just drop me an email.

Download Microsoft Windows Defender from below link. It would definitley get rid of the stuff.

After the full scan and removal - it would ask you about the home page you want to set and you can choose all options to set as default.

It would 100% work.

A good thing about this : its FREE

PS: I hate to scare you with a large answer and some jargons - try the above method and it will sort your problem out. Tell me if it doesnt.
