That depends on how your doctor does it. I was going to a pain management center and that quack didnt even numb the area before he gave me the epidural. Now that hurt like HE11!!!! Now I am going to a different doctor and he gives me shots to numb the area first and it doesn't hurt at all. It also depends on how much pain tolerance you have. Best of luck to you.

Hi there,

Epidurals are used during delivery due to the fact that they stop the pain, yet allow enough control over the musculature used to 'push' the baby out of the birth canal.

So yes...an epidural is for the pain. And from every woman I've ever spoken with, they were very glad for it. You'll experience much pain with than without.

All the best.

If you have even a small tattoo, then it really wouldn't hurt so much. But some people have a lasting pain especially in there back, so it is very important that you sit very still while the Anesthesist administer the epidural.

Hope that helped...

Hello

It wasn't painful, they give you medication to relax you, then numb the area. However during the procedure ( I had mine done in my neck) I started to feel pressure and pain in my chest it scared me but i guess its quite common. About 8 hours after the procedure I got the worst migraine I've ever had. I had to go to the ER where they gave me morphine shots to stop it. By the way the procudure didn't help.

Depends on your pain factor. I have seen women crying and yelling and I have seen some that just sit there. I didn't think it hurt at all when I got mine, it feels like a bee sting and then warm fluid going into your back and thats pretty much it.

Yah....it hurts!! They put it right at the bottom of your tail bone...and you are not suppose to flinch or move. Oh...and you are not suppose to raise your head up for...I believe it was at least an hour after you have...because it can create a headache that may never go away....that's what the Dr. told me. I have had one because of having a baby.
