If you are asking about how to insert iconic symbols in a document using a wordprocessing program such as Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect, here's how to do it with WordPerfect. That's what I have, but Microsoft Word is very similar.

In your document, place your cursor wherever you want the symbol to appear, click on INSERT, then on SYMBOL, then on ICONIC. Then browse the symbols in the iconic group until you find the heart or whatever symbol you want to insert in your document, click on it to highlight it, then click on INSERT or INSERT AND CLOSE.

The symbol will appear in your document. If it's too small to suit you, just click on it to highlight it, and click on FONT and increase the size of the font.

This should do it for you, but if not, try hitting F1 (shortcut to Help) or or clicking on Start and then clicking on Help. Type in the words "Inserting symbols" or something like that and see what comes up. Snoop around the help files.

Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map and find what you want to use. Save it to your clipboard and then paste it were you want it.

smybols in HTML code for text areas are known as ALT symbols or ALT codes.

example: hold down the ALT key and type 0169 and you get ©.
