Hello, Has anybody else been ripped off using Ebay, By ripped off I mean.. Buying something and you never recived the item or the item was faulty or the item was not described correctly. And if so is it worth trying to get a refund. Cheers. I am thinking about closing my account as I have been ripped off for the second time. What do you think?

Yes! How did you pay? If you paid by paypal and didnt receieve the item and the seller has no proof of selling it, the payment gets automatically refunded and there is nothing the seller can do, even if the seller has no money in there account! Because its a direct debit, they can request the refund anyway and the seller will just have to pay the unauthorised overdraft fee.

If it was not described then you can take this up with ebay or paypal depending how you pay and they will decide who gets what depending on the facts you give and how different the item you received and the item that was advertised.

DEFINATELY PUT A CLAIM IN!

I paid for item and i didnt get what i received and i received a replacement and another time i didnt receive the item at all and received a refund from paypal.

I have had a couple of problems with buying stuff off E-bay. The first thing was some gift vouchers which never arrived. I actually paid by cheque on this occasion - £70 for £100 worth of vouchers which never arrived - he was just a rip-off merchant. I claimed through e-bay but after they took off the P&P and their £15 admin fee, I only got around £45 back and it took MONTHS.

On two other occasions, when I had paid via Paypal and the goods never arrived, for one item, which had actually gone missing in the post, the man then sent me a replacement after Paypal intervened and the other item, Paypal found in my favour but couldn't give me all the money back as there was not enough in the man's Paypal account.

If Paypal find in your favour, they will only give you the money back if the person has it in their account, they will not take legal action to recover your loss.

In the case of the gift vouchers, I was going to report it to the police but my friend, who is a Detective Sergeant, told me that, although the case would be investigated, the police would not get my money back. I would have to take him to a small claims court and I would then, obviously, only get my money back if I won the case. As the seller was at the other end of the country and I had some of my money back, I decided it wasn't worth the effort.

Never been ripped off. Bought something recently from Belgium, item was faulty and the seller, simply sent another one. And it cost £30 so wasn't just any old item. I suggest using paypal, that way your protected. Its always best (depending on the item and location) to pick the item up and give cash in hand, after testing it.

OR arrange to view item before bidding.

Hopes this helps!

No, I've never been ripped off, and I use E-Bay all the time mainly to purchase items. Use your head before you send your money to anyone....always use Paypal....check the seller's feedback....contact the seller if you're unsure about them or the item.....ask plenty of very clear questions about the item including the obvious, like "Is it genuine or a fake?" etc. Genuine sellers will give you a genuine answer.

As in everything else, there are some idiots on E-Bay who would love to take your money. Think about the item you're buying. Spend time making sure it's really what you're after. Decide what you're prepared to pay.

If someone does try to rip you off, after you've paid. Contact them by mail and then by phone.....you can get their number from E-Bay if you've bought or sold something with them. If you still have no luck report it to E-Bay and Paypal and insist that you get your money back, which you will.

Enjoy E-Bay, and don't listen to the endless whingers who know nothing about it!

I always make it a point to look at the seller's feedback before I buy anything. I have yet to ecounter any real problem, and I have been using ebay for a very long time. Get your refund. Keep your account. It is a fantastic place to get what you want at discounted prices. Just pay a little more attention to who you are buying from.

I only pay using Pay Pal and never buy from anybody who does not have a !00 % feedback rating. I have had about 200 transactions without any bother so far. The thing is to read the discription of the article very carefully. The moral of the story is buyer beware.

Yes! I bought a W.W.2 wounded badge, and when it arrived it turned out to be the biggest piece of reproduction crap that I have ever seen! If that wasn,t bad enough, he had already over-charged me on the postage! Something needs to be done about buyers inability to get redress in such circumstances! I have noticed , of late, that many of the sellers are ensuring a good return, by charging more postage than the item they are selling is worth!

I bought a 'very good condition laptop' for my son on ebay, I was sent a damaged password locked mechanical ashtray!

I paid by bankers draught (never again!) but pursued the claim through ebay. It took six months but I was awarded 80% of my original costs.

Always worth trying to claim, but better to pay through paypal, then you are automatically covered. Other than that one time I have never had a problem, 99.9% of sellers are genuine people, in my experience!

I know postage is a total bust. I bought an item for $6 and it was $6 to ship it! You do need to leave a blog on the site about not receiving your products. Go back to "your history of items purchased" and leave the info. I won't use it again. Plus,I'm totally not into the bidding crap. I want what I want when I want it!

I have bought a ridiculous amount of items from different people on ebay, NEVER had one bad transaction. What are the people's percentage ratings that you are buying these faulty items from?
