Everyone seems to be obsessed about players (Baseball, Basketball, etc) coming from all over the world and therefore, world champions. In soccer, the big team like Manchester United, Barcelona, AC Milan, etc have players from all over the world, yet you never hear them claiming to be world champions when their team wins their county's league!

Hubris pure and simple. And also they tend to play games that aren't played elsewhere so that they can always say that the US is a World Champion. It's very easy to be a World Champion when no one else is allowed to compete.

Because the best players in the world all strive to get to the big leagues in the US. The top leagues in football, baseball basketball and hockey are all over here.
Soccer, well that's a different story.
But as for the World Series winner being called World Champs. Look at their rosters. Tell me where the players are from. All over the world. Therefore "World Champs"

Usually the best players in the world play in the United States, even those born from other nations. Note that the winner of the MLS cup isn't considered World Champion.

Because the American professional sports are where the best players in the world go. The best players in the world come to the NBA, the MLB, the NFL and the NHL in their respective sports.

Of course, on one here gives two sheets about soccer of futbol or footy or whatever you want to call it, since it's boring to watch as a spectator sport and doesn't take much talent to kick a ball. The goaltender is the only athletic position in soccer!

Because no other country in the world even counts, let alone can compete in professional athletics with the U.S. Central and South America can play some baseball, but 1 of two things is the case. 1. All their good players come here to play, or 2. They can't afford airfare to play here. I still can't believe that you asked this question.
