You can ask your OB anything you want!!
S/He is there for YOU, however s/he is obligated to explain all the risks associated with it, and s/he may decline to induce you unless they feel there is a real medical necessity. That is a tough call for the OB since YOU are the one feeling the pain and not sleeping.
No harm in asking, and your OB may have a solution for you which may or may not be induction.
Good luck!!

Have you asked your doctor yet? Are you really in pain?
If your baby is not at risk, your doctor will say just hold on a little while longer.

It would be better for your baby to try and reach the full 40 weeks.

I do understand what you are talking about though, I was in my 7th month and could not eat, walk, sleep or do almost anything. Then, and this is really a joke, but I think the Lord was tired of hearing me complain and said, "Okay, I have had it up to here with your complaining, the twins are coming out today." So, my relief came with my twin girls were born at 32 weeks, very healthy too. I drank so much water, between 32-64 oz a day. Once I found out how very important water really was to you and your baby, i.e. hydration, I drank water, with lemon or lime, like it was going out of style.

So, I hope this has helped you in some way.

Just ask your doctor if it would be alright to be induced.

You can ask your doctor to induce you, but consider the risks versus the benefits very carefully. Induced labor can be much more painful than natural labor. I had to be induced because my water broke and I had no contractions. I had a very long, painful labor that ended in a c-section because the induction didn't work. I tried to do natural labor techniques, and held out for 19 hours, but after that I had to ask for an epidural, and still waited abother 11 hours before relenting and having a c-section.

You may want to read the below article on the facts of induced labor. Since your baby is past the 38 week point, there may be relatively little danger to him/her. Still, talk to your doctor and weigh the risks versus the benefits.

Best of luck!

You can ask, but most of the time there has to be a medical reason to be induced. They may since you are so close to 40 weeks and having severe back pain. Try though. I hope they can because at 37 weeks I was to the point where I never slept because I could never get comfortable and my back and hips hurt so badly. I live on a military post with stupid doctors who tell me they won't do it because they don't even consider inducing a healthy pregnancy until you are 2 weeks overdue! Thankfully my son came 2 weeks later.

Usually they do not induce after 40 weeks. Some Doctors will it just depends I think that some will induce after 36 weeks but Im not sure so dont quote me on that. I asked to be induced , I was 2 weeks late!!!!! and the night before i was supposed to be induced i started haveing contractions. I had him the next night.

You can definitely discuss induction with your doctor, but being induced is no fun either. Women that are induced generally feel a more intense labor, since they are injected with pitocin which makes contractions stronger and more unbearable.

I totally understand that you are MISERABLE. What I suggest is walking ALOT and as often as your body lets you. I was scheduled for an induction at 39.5 weeks but I went into labor a few days before and I had been walking up and down my street 3x a day for a week! I really believe all that walking helped me go into labor sooner. Good luck and happy delivery!

I begged to be induced - but I was also past 41 weeks, going on 42.
My doctor gave in.
I guess he "saw" in my eyes that I was done.

Con: I was induced when I was only dilated to 1cm - and my labor was 29 hours of pitocin induced contractions a minute apart. It was brutal. If I had it to do all over again, I would wait for it to happen naturally.

I asked to be induced at 40 weeks and regretted every moment of it. It makes the pain INBEARABLE!!! It was the worst birth I had ever had in my life. Along with that, you are not able to get an epidural when induced. I would seriously consider discussing the pros and cons with your doctor first. Find out every bit of information that you possibly can.

My due date was Jan. 10. I went to my OB on Dec. 20 and was told i was already 2 centimeters. so they told me i was probably going to have my boy on christmas. So Christmas came and went and i went back Dec. 28 and was still 2 cent. so they said it was definatley going to be New Years, but if not that they would strip my membranes. needless to say i didn't have him new years either. so when i went back Jan 4th, they said they would just wait until my due date or until i went into labor. But i told the doctor i was not going to walk around like that for another week and told her to strip my membranes right then and there. I went into labor that night and had my beautiful boy on the 5th at 9:05 am. So they did what i wanted and it was a good thing too because when he was born he weighed 9lbs 14 oz, and probably would have weighed more if we would have waite for the 10th. So long story short, ask your doc, and if its in your best interest they probably will induce you. or whoever. Good luck

Yes you can if your doctor will agree to it is the question...
It really is natural that your not getting enough sleep, your preparing for sleepless nights for a newborn.
You might tell your Dr. (at your next visit) about the back pains. It sounds like its labor. My Mom had back labor for 6 weeks with me, before she had me.

Enjoy this time, Relax, and Good Luck.
