No one would run, or bribery would be rampant. Viva the revolution.

OMG, no! They are presently making somewhere in the vicinity of $160,000! (Who would want to be an 'elected official' if they can't make the big bucks?)
Seriously, if we want good representation in our government, they need to make a substantial pay.
I believe the better way is; as initiated by the Democratic party; no new raises until the minimum wage is increased to at least $7.50 an hour (I am uncertain of the exact amount, here).
Having written all this, on one hand, I don't know of a lot of congress people who deserve the wages they make - on the other hand, the ones' that do a good job, deserve a medal! (For; opposing the republican illicit, illegal, immoral tactics - and, standing against the 'majority' "blank check" groupies!)

They make $162,500 a year. Unfortunately they are one of the only bodies on earth that say what their pay is. If they want a raise they just add it to a bill they know will pass. I think it is crooked as heck. I think the house should vote on pay for the senate and vice-versa, or better yet have it a public vote.

Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!!! Like they'd ever allow us to put a cap on their wages! Every year they vote for a pay raise and somehow it always passes. I'd like to see them try to survive on what I make: 26,000 Tops! lol Salary cap!

The current salary for rank-and-file members of the House and Senate is $165,200 per year.
Us? put a cap on it? they vote themselves salary increases without asking us about it.

I don't know what their salaries are currently. I do know that the perks exceed the salaries, so it's a well paying position.
