IMO, they were right up there with Led Zeppelin, The Who and Jimi Hendrix - and much better than The (overrated) Beatles - yet no one ever talks about Cream like they talk about the aforementioned bands. Why is that?

YEAH,why? To me, this was Claptons most creative period. Also he should get recognition for giving the blues a wider audience and wider recognition, right?

Probably because they didn't stay together as a group as long as other bands such as the (underated) Beatles. Eric Clapton has a history of forming bands and not staying together very long. For example Cream, Yardbirds, and Blind Faith. These bands did produce some excellant music though.

What are you talking about ? In the late sixties Cream WERE the biggest thing going. How can you say the Beatles were overrated ? Lennon / McCartney were one of the greatest song writing teams ever -- maybe you just were'nt there.

Well i do agree with you about Cream but not about the Beatles , they really changed music as we know it ,dude all we had was the friggi'n Beach Boys and Chubby Checker for gods sake .... you just dont' know . I dont' know the answer maybe because they werent' togeather all that long Ginger was ill and they went' on to bigger things

r u kidding me there in the r n r hall of fame,they influenced so many bands in a short time.i concur the beatles are overrated STONES RULE

why stop at cream? isnt their another 1 or 2 like yardbirds?

Because each of it's members went on to even bigger careers, solo or with other groups.
