How do you properly dry a gourd?

I have a couple of cool gourds that I would like to make into a lamp or a bird feeder....can you help me?

Store them in a dry place, they will mold and stink, let them dry all winter, then clean off mold with bleach water and a scrubb brush, if you are putting them outside after you make whatever you are going to make out of them, put several coats of exterior varnish on them to preserve them.
