Lets say your to-do list includes 30 things. With 30 people do accomplish it for you, how long will it take? How about with 2 people? You'd figure it would take 15x longer when 1 person has to do 15 things instead of having one person do one thing.

Of course, having 2 people do the same thing is a waste and sometimes not possible - have you ever tried to have two people wash dishes at the same time in the same sink? (I don't mean one wash one dry, I mean BOTH washing at the same time?) So if your computer only does one thing, then there is no benefit.

basically, more processing power. If you have 2 CPUs (instead of the usual 1), those 2 CPUs can split the tasks your computer has to do, giving you more processing power to take care of large, processor-intensive tasks from the programs you use. Basically, its the same as saying that two heads are better than one.

What's the advantage to having, say, 30 brains versus just one or two?

Ever hear of "two heads are better than one"?

If you connect them properly so that they work together you have 30 times a much processing power that you would have with a single CPU.
