it depends. do you have a dvd drive in your laptop?
If you don't then you'll have to buy one. but if you do, you can download Nero or any other software and pay for it to copy the dvd to your harddrive.
But if you don't wanna pay anything, I suggest you use DVD Decrypter, which is a freeware that rips encrypted dvd video files onto your harddrive for further processing. It removes region code protection and macrovision too. You can rip the dvd into VOB files, (if you do this you can play the files using VLC player) or .ISO files. To play the .ISO file, you'll have to download Daemon Tools. After the .ISO file is complete, mount the .iso you just ripped. "Right click on daemon tools, choose VIRTUAL CD/DVD-ROM | Device 0: | Mount Image and locate the ripped .iso file. It'll show as Generic STEALTH DVD."
Most of the DVDs have encryted codes and Macrovision protection etc. which stops you from ripping the dvd. But now you can get rid of that too. If that happens, you have to download DVD43. After installing it, you have to run it while ripping the dvd, cuz what it does is "remove Macrovision protection and handles ARcoSS protection."
But hmm, I would recommend for you to go here:
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/
It shows you what I have basically told you but in easy step by step instructions, with also pictures as guides. So yea, go to that site and it will help you to understand better. ^^
So as you can see, it can be done.

assuming that you have DVD drive connected to your computer
jsut copy it. can be doen through exploer my computer or the olfd fashioned way through a dos prompt copy d:\*.* c:\MyPirateDVD\*.*
however youw wuill almost certainly have probelms as most commercial DVD 's have mechanisms (software) that checks the correct DVD is present when the application runs. so you may well be ablew to trransfer the data onto your laptop, but not neccesarily run the appolication / film fromt he PC, without the original DVD.
You can get round this sometimes by copying the DVD onto another DVD (requires a DVD recorder CD & suitable software *usually comes witht he DVD drive (nero is probably as good as it gets for the software))

The link below is to a site i use for copying my DVDs to my Archos but it is fantastic for cloning your movies.
'Any DVD' is for de-coding regional D.V.D's from around the world. This removes the prevention from copying encryption on almost all D.V.D's. This is just for the use of copying your own D.V.D's - and not to be used for piracy!!!
'Clone D.V.D Mobile' is probable what you would want. I have paid for both and it was worth every penny - the great thing is you get a free trail of the product (i think it 24 days).
Go have a look, i would highly recommend their product.

I found a free download of Daemon Tools here http://bit.ly/1mF0ZyS
Daemon Tools lets you create virtual devices and "mount" the most common image file formats without needing to burn a CD/DVD.
It's a must have program.

All DVD movies are protected by special encrypted codes to stop downloads, some even stop you playing USA DVD (regions)
on your laptop.
Piracy only cuts revenues for future movie magic.

Well, your CD drive must also be a DVD drive. Look at the edge of the CD tray...it will have "compact-disk" logo on it, but if it is DVD ready, it will also have a "DVD-multi" logo on it. No logo, then you are a no-go.
