Ancient Summer is part of Mesopotamia. It was one of the civilizations which existed in Mesopotamia (now Iraq and surrounding countries), the other two notable groups were the Babylonians and the Assyrians. Although these groups of people fought with each other, the were more alike than different. They were all considered Mesopotamian, just as the Spartans and the Athenians were considered Greek. The Sumerians are credited with the invention of the wheel, first written language, arithmetic and geometry, irrigation systems, sailboats, lunisolar calendar, bronze, leather, saws, chisels, hammers, braces, bits, nails, pins, rings, hoes, axes, knives, lancepoints, arrowheads, swords, glue, daggers, water skins, bags, harnesses, armor, quivers, scabbards, boots, sandal (footwear), harpoons, and beer brewing. If it wasn't for their influential innovations, the world would be a different place.

Yes, but I think that Sumeria was earlier than Mesopotamia and was a smaller area than it. I believe that Mesopotamia is thought of as the birthplace of historical man. If that is the case there are very few inscriptions that give us much indication of Sumeria.. Still there are plenty of inscriptions and documents of Ancient Egypt so I am not sure why Mesopotamia is considered the birthplace of historical man. Thank you for your question as it makes me wonder about the Hitites. Who were they?
