Ok I have this coin that my boyfriend was givin. Its about the size of an American dime, its silver, and kind of heavy. One side has a side face portrait of a man and "ALBERT II" on it. The other side has the date at the top "1995", a big number 1, and under the one is "BELGIQUE". It also has the word "FRANC" on it. I was just wondering what country it was from and what it was worth in American money if any. Thank you.

**I cant get a good photo of it or else I would have a photo**

It is from Belgium and is in French.Coins from Belgium come in two languages for they speak both there. One as I said is French, the other is Flemish. You have the French one and it is KM# 171. From the Standard Catalog of World coins. Albert II is the king on the obverse. It is obsolete money, as Belgium now uses the Euro. Someday it may have a collectors value but not at this time. I am not sure if both languages are on the Euro coins, but do know they no longer make two of the same, one in French and one in Flemish. The coins were recalled when Belgium joined the European Community. One last thing, in 1995 you got 35.30 Franks, for your dollar bill. You gave a good description no photo was necessary. Hope this answers your question.

It is a Belgian franc. Belgium is north of France and one of their official languages is French. They used Francs until they went to the Euro. Your coin is not worth anything on the current exchange since it is no longer being used, but a collector might want to buy it.

When Francs were still being used, Belgian francs were worth substantially less than French francs.

if i'm not mistaken it is from belgium belgique would b a french word as well as franc which is french money. it isn't worth anything in american or french money because it is too young. 1995 isn't old for coins.. to make double sure look up a coin collector in your area and take it to him to check out professionally. it shouldn't cost u anything.
