I am in college and want to get my ears pierced for the first time but I don't want to go to the mall where all the 10 year olds go, is there a place where adults can go without an appointment?

Good on you!

My advice? Go to your piercer at a local tattoo/piercing shop. They'll use a needle instead of a gun. Needles hurt less, are cleaner, and much safer than guns. Piercing guns are not hygenic and lead to infection easily.

Good luck!

All tattoo parlors have a person where they pierce a customers ears. Look for a parlor that has is Clean. And make sure you feel comfortable with the person who will do it for you. Make sure that they wear gloves and that they take the needle and earring out of the package in front of you. If you live in the New York Metro Area, I can give you a good place to go. Your kitchen. All it takes is a few ice cubes, some rubbing alcohol and a needle. Plus it's easier with a friend who is not afraid to put you through a little pain.

The ear lobe has very few nerves.
Ice down the area to numb the nerves really well.
Clean the needle with alcohol
Clean your ear with alcohol
Have a pair of starter ear rings available.
Stick the needle through your ear lobe
ice and alcohol some more
insert the starter ear rings to prevent the hole from healing closed.
Keep them in place for a few days and keep some antibiotic on them until the holes heal

There probably is an internet site with better instructions but that's my best guess.

Jewlers, tattoo parlors and those mall places you do not want to go to. LOTS of adults go to those places and they do a GOOD job. first time i had my ears pierced, I went to a local jewler. The woman did a crappy job and did not get the holes even. For the second time, I went to Claires (this one was not in the mall) and they did a GREAT job. They know what they are doing as they do it all the time.

There's a guy who works in the kitchen at Denny's who will do your piercings really cheap. He uses a skewer and a bar of soap. Just ask for Leo.

Try your local tattoo shop or Wal-Mart. I don't know if K-mart or Target does ear piercing. It seems like JC Penney might.

A lot of tattoo parlors do piercings as well. Definitely not "cutsey" and they'll do a good job.

Go to your nearest biker bar and find an ex-con with a safety pin and an ink pen.
