Why do so many people place so much blame at the hands of Colon? It's almost like people today have a zeal to throw mud on our cherished heros.
I don't care, I like the guy, and all he did to further humanity (literally and figuritively)!
Who's next on the list, Neil Armstrong?

Swaggs, you have no clue.
His intent was not to kill or convert, he may have even been a converso. I know you're an Aussie and can't help but being ignorant, but please... he was living under times when Spain was dominated by the Church, he had to appease the Pope and the Crown.
-If you read his history, you'd learn how he tried to oppose the machinations of the violent ones in his midst.

Cherised hero? Columbus? Are you kidding? He was nothing but a murderer in the name of christianity, just like Cortez and all the rest of those bastards. Learn some history.

Did Armstong kill for gold? Ever hear of the Taino nation? I'm guessing not.

Well as you can see by your answers, there is a big difference in opinion. Personally, I think he was just a guy who made a big mistake and ended up finding the Western Hemisphere. He did not kill a bunch of people like the one person says. He just was the one who found the land and can't be held responsible for what the people after him did.

Being a liberal I am ashamed at so many liberals for being Columbus haters. I do not hate Columbus and admire him and his followers for being adventerous enough to sail into the unknown. I agree with your assumption that they'll probably go after guys like Neil armstrong next and blame him for destroying something on the moon. If the people who really hate Columbus are serious, and they are not native Americans, they really should live up to their standards and go back to Europe to live where their anscestors came from.
