Here are some links below for you. As long as you follow safe co-sleeping guidelines, co-sleeping is a wonderful idea!
Be sure to check out the first link from the Mother-Baby Sleep Laboratory.
EDITED TO ADD:
turtlesducky - I think you are confusing smothering and sids. They are two completely different things.

I suggest the book "No cry sleep solution" I went through the same thing you are going through and this book helped me the most. I ended up pulling my baby in her crib close to the bed so that she was right next to me and I could hold her little hand to let her know I was there. It helped me sleep through the night and it helped her too. I was no longer worried. This book is geared towards co-sleeping but it does represent the other options. I think in the end you, the mother of your baby, will know what is best for your situation. Good Luck to you and your little one!

I have found all my information at Parenting.com and Babycenter.com.You wouldnt believe the helpful info on EVERYTHING you could imagine.I myself have always been scared to sleep with my babies, and then just kept making them sleep in their bed,Ive not even had my kids ask to sleep with me hardly at all,I guess because Ive always put them in their bed.But I did see a situation on the news a while back where a daddy put his baby in bed with him,and just his arm was slightly over the babys face and he suffocated, another where a breast feeding mom had her baby in bed feeding her and her breast suffocated her. These are just 2 situations that I have seen on the news in the past year.I think I would rather cuddle him for a couple hours before bedtime and hold him until he fell asleep to be on the safe side,I was just always too scared, even though theres nothing more precious than holding your baby all night,Id just rather be safe than sorry! I hope the websites helped, they are awesome from experts.God bless and congragulations on being a mom, theres no better gift!

I understand your need to find the facts, I felt the same way, but in the end my little guy stayed with me in my bed and we loved it!

parenting.com is a good place. However I breastfed my children and found it alot easier to let them sleep in the bed with us. It caused alot less stress for the middle of the night feedings.

you should talk to your babys doctor first of all there are studies out there that say the number one cause of sids is sleeping witht the parents babies dont need to be around blankets pillows or anything of the sort they are still way to young to know if something gets in their face you should talk to your doctor about your feelings and good luck

Well I wouldn't let the baby sleep with you . The best way is to put a crib in the room with you and let the baby sleep there. For one thing when it gets older it will want to sleep with you and not sleep in its own bed but that up to you.

You are just being a over paranoid new mother. Put you kid in it's own bed where it belongs. What are you going to do breast feed til he's six?
