Think that should be the other way round. Not too many years since you had you bi-centennial if my memory serves me well. Just look at the history of the UK it is centuries more than the US. Therefore the founding fathers (Pilgrims from the UK) of the US must be the child (and a rather spoit one at that) of the the UK.
It is not that America did not have a population before that, just that it does not seem to want to recognise their heritage.

Historically speaking I suppose Britain is America's old father! Somewhat estranged, still trying to get on but not really understading each other and each believing that our own traditions and ideas are betterjust because they are what we do - and generally maintaining a grudging respect for each other for the sake of the family and because you can't choose your relatives!

No we are not America's little brother, where were they when we needed their help in WW!!, and the only reason they entered the war was because the Japs Bombed Pearl Harbour. I recently went to LA for a visit, I was asked by a waitress 'are you from England? to which I replied, yes from London, she came back with 'what street is London on????? I rest my case.

remember the Brain Drain from the 70's?
All our most Skilled professionals were poached to go to USA.
Even in the 40's they poached the best scientist out of Germany (rockets, atom bomb)
So Big brother the UK not any more.
sound bitter..you bet.

Well, since America wouldn't be America, had it not been for England, AND since England has been around much longer, I'd have to say the America is Britian's younger brother.

Overheard in an American bar, during the first gulf war, at the time of the "friendly fire" incident:
"Oh, it's OK, it was only a bunch of Brits".
