I have to say it is a little of both. You have to have some degree of talent and the drive to cultivate it.

A little bit of both.

I know that in my years on the road to becoming a professional musician sometimes it was tough. I was born with a certain amount of natural talent that carried me through high school and most interest throughout that, but when I got to college - my "natural talent" wasn't good enough anymore. I had to suppliment it with hours of practice before I was actually able to call myself a 'professional'.

I believe that to be true with all things weither it be a musician, artist, or car mechanic. It all takes a little bit of both.

A talent is given by God, but your responsability is to practice it and master it because your talents make room for you in your life. God always gives a seed for your need. He may not put 10 000 dollars everyday in your mailbox, but he gave you something unique that worth more than 10 000 dollars... he gave you one or several talents. A talent is like a seed, it won't benefit you if you don't plant it, take care of it, let it grow until it produces abundance for you and others. You need to know your talent, then practice it and it will make room for you.

A person may be born with a natural talent but you have to work hard to get to where you want to go.

If I had to be picky I would think that talent is (innate) and skill is man-made (extrinsic).
