Yes we should. But the real prize will be Mars. I think the world community should rise up and stop squandering its resources on war. We should focus on taking care of this planet before we ruin it permanently, and, we should also get busy discovering our future in space as a united people.

I think we should colonize the sea first. First off the sea has an abundence of resources that mankind has bearly begun to tap.
Secondly, the same technology you use to colonize the sea would be similar to the tech. used to colonize the moon, so you could use it as a test run without many of the longistical problems of the moon.
Besides, wouldn't the moonmen just put up a big fence to keep us out?

Absolutely!

Colonizing the moon is the first step in true deep space exploration. Humans need to develop the ability to spread our seed throughout the cosmos before our own tiny blue rock, through our own actions or other natural processes, becomes unsuitable for human habitation.

No - nothing there worth having. When we are at a technology level, capable of colonising another (non-earth) bidy, Mars will probably be a better choice.

That having been said - creating a permanent moon-base would be a great exercise.

Yes, humanity needs to travel outwards into space. To ensure humanity has a future, it is critical to leave the Earth and establish footholds elsewhere.

We can't risk keeping all our eggs in one basket.

Venture forth and multiply!
