I work in a surgical center where we actually do "abortions" for medical reasons/genetic defects. There is a medical term for these "abortions", but I won't go there right now.
If a baby doesn't have a brain, why make the mother go through 9 months of ultimate stress only to give birth to complete silence and despair?
If a baby doesn't have any kidneys, and surely won't survive outside a womb...
If a baby has a head, but no face - no nose, eyes, mouth - and can't possibly survive....
If a baby doesn't have a spine, or skull to protect the brain...
Genetic defects are truly horrifying, but it's even more horrifying to force a mother take a pregnancy full term only to see a dead baby as a result.
I strongly believe to "abort" the defects, and let the mother try again (soon) for a normal baby, normal pregnancy, and normal outcome.
The sooner she has a normal pregnancy, the sooner the family's nightmare will fade.

It all depends. I had a conversation with a friend who majored in child psychology and said that if were to ever be pregnant and find out that her baby had some kind of abnormality, she would (without hesitation) abort it. I was pretty offended by that and I didn't have any children at the time. Now that I'm pregnant, I know for sure that I wouldn't have done that if any of my tests would have came up positive for something, but that's me and I respect the fact that everyone has the right to their own opinion. The only time I wouldn't want to keep my baby is if I know for a fact that it won't have a chance to survive.

Well it's no ones place to judge What a woman does with her body.I have two wonderful kids and my third on the way and couldn't imagine my life without them.I dont think women should use abortion as a form of b/c but in some cases it's best to not have the child. Now there are women who have tubal pregnancy's who cant carry a child without dieing.I can understand that.As for birth defects I feel that is your child you should love them no matter what and take care of them.

My son had gastroschisis when he was born. He was a twin and they asked me if I'd like to make a "selective reduction." I was absolutely shocked when they asked me because I was already almost seven months pregnant. I told them no emphatically! I now have a healthy three year old son whom I could not live without. The repair was done minutes after he was born and you would never know he ever had anything wrong with him. So yes I think it would eb wrong to abort a baby based on a genetic defect.

If the mother or child is in danger I think it is okay to terminate a pregancy.
If the child is not going to be able to live a life and know what is going on in the wold around them then , why make them suffer through surgerys an other medical testing.
Children with autisim and down syndrome are able to live fun filled lives and children with handycaps learn to function in life.

This is hard, when I first got pregnant I found myself asking the same question. You need to ask God what he wants you to do for Him to show you the way. Maybe think about adoption if you are not in a good place to be raising a needy child. There are many people out there that would love to have children but can't and would love to take care of yours. If you still want to see your child there is open adoption. Good luck I will pray for you too.

If you are talking medical reason I think that decision should be between the mother and father along with all the information from the doctor. I do not think people have the right to judge someone if they don't know all the facts.

Hi. We learned that our baby had Trisomy 18 at 5 months, and the chances of it even making it to the 6th month was null. We had an D&E for our sake and for the sake of our baby. We are now 15 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby. It was the hardest decision we will ever make. Good luck to you if you are in this situation.

Well for one thing I not for an abortion. But if you have to stopped your pregnacy for medical reason then that is okay.
I lost a child to a miscarriage when I was 22 years old. For one thing my water had done busted and he had to take the baby out or it might of been my life. so I believe if you need to lose the baby for medical reason go for it. For one thing if best for you if the baby is causing you problems. Plus if it is deliever then sometime the baby is deformed.

When God allows one to concieve he's given a life with a purpose and we shouldn't doubt his grace. I've known several people who've done genetic testing and the tests came back positive for various defects, but the babies were born healthy. Life is such a precious gift... don't deny it!
