Where can I find out how to get from Kansai Airport (Osaka) to Kurashiki station (or Okayama) by train? Also, where is a map and where can I find all the info I need?
I want to take a normal train...not a bullet train.
Also, what are the fares?

From KIX you take theHaruka Limited Express train to Shin Osaka eki. From Shin Osaka Eki you take a shinkansen to Okayama Eki. From Okayama, you transfer to the Sanyo Hon Sen and take a train to Kurashiki eki. I researched all this info from www.yahoo.co.jp
Total fares should be about 4,520円

You can find all the info you want here. The JR train will be significantly cheaper than the Shinkansen but will be slower. You can probably find a JR train that goes directly there from Osaka but maybe you'll have to switch.
There will be many trains that go from Kansai to Osaka and SHIN-Osaka Stations. Shin-Osaka station is the one that has the shinkansin. I suspect that this is where you'll want to be to go to Kurashiki. I know your Japanese is good, so you can even ask someone at the station what train, or trains, go to Kurashiki and he'll tell you exactly what to take.
Check the website for fares. Shouldn't be all that bad.

The site below is a good starting point. From personal experience, you need not worry about rail schedules etc.when going to Japan. At the Kansai Airport (or any airport) go to the ticket counter for the Japan Rail and they will instruct you where you need to go. They are very friendly, English speaking and efficient. They will also give you all the maps you would ever want.

Total duration: 2 hours 42 minutes
Total length of the trip: 257 KM
Total cost for the trip: 8,470 YEN
I recommend that you buy Japan Rail Pass before you come to Japan, so you can use JR trains freely (except NOZOMI)
Here is the directions in Japanese, print it and use it at Kansai Airport station (JR) to help you get the proper tickets; ask them to print an English tickets for you. Good luck

I don't know anything about train travel in Japan, but I love traveling by train, and whenever I need the skinny on it, I log on to this guy's site, the best overall:

if you know where you wanna go, this website will give you the train that you need to catch, what time it leaves and arrives, and how much yen you will need. It's been a GREAT help to me.
