I was horrified! I just read in an architectural magazine that they are building a new one and [gasp!] demolishing the current one!! I'm no Yankee fan, but as a true baseball fan, that place is like Mecca. It reeks of history and legend. It says they're making it similar, just updating it for modern times. They'll move the statues and all, but Yikes!! Any thoughts??

I'm from Boston, but I love the Yankee's. I think that is a disgrace to just tear it down and build a new that "may be similar" As much as I love the yanks I still love going to Fenway I think it is beautiful and I respect the history of it. I thought the same thing when I visited Yankee Stadium, It brought tears to my eyes to even image Mantle, Gehrig, Berra, etc. actually played on that field they stood in the same stadium i was sitting in I was probably even walking someplace that they had walked. I can go on and on. A couple years ago they thought about doing the same to fenway and the people voted NO. I am disgusted that no one cared enough to want to save the original stadium. while we are at it the declaration of independance is looking a little worn...Hey lets copy it on to some new paper. We can put down the same words and transfer some signatures... Wahla. All better. Right? To me it is just as important!

As much as I love the Yankees and Yankee Stadium, it's time for a new one.

The stadium was upgraded in the 70s, but that still doesn't change the fact that it's 83 years old. Most teams have had mulitiple stadiums since then, including the Reds, Phillies, and Pirates who had stadiums built in the 70s but now each have great new stadiums.

Just because it's a great piece of history doesn't mean that there shouldn't be a change. Opposing players have complained for years about the lack of space. There are no big underground batting cages like most stadiums. The sight lines are poor in many areas, and it's just falling apart in some places. Should the Yankees just not get a new stadium because it's historic? Also, the Yankees are footing most of the cost themselves, and saving the taxpayers at least some of the money.

These people who complain about the Yanks having a huge payroll, and making a ton of money are forgetting that they are drawing 4 millions fans a year to an old stadium, and they deserve a great place, like Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Seattle, etc. If these small market teams can get new stadiums, shouldn't the Yankees?

Also, think of Fenway. They could draw 50,000 to each game easily with a new, larger stadium.

Change is good, at least in this case.

it is very sad. Yankee stadium is a national landmark. But so was Tiger Stadium. I have been to both Cathedral 's of baseball. I feel for the true Yankee fan , I hope that the city of NY won't let it rot like the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. I just hope that there will some of the original Yankee stadium design to the new park. I do not like the Comerica park it sucks there is no upper deck bleachers So my advice is to cherish every game at Yankee Stadium take plenty of photos. enjoy every Moment.

here is the links to what the current condition of Tiger Stadium looks like today.

Sorry to say but this i the way it goes, Old Comisky park, and others have gone this way. It is sad because Yankee stadium is the legendary "house that Ruth built" but maybe its time for a change. The current trend for stadiums seems to be much more popular and profitable.

I love the "old" stadium, but this new one is supposed to be amazing. More luxury boxes, better food, better bathrooms...etc. They aren't demolishing the "old" stadium either. They are keeping it open as a museum, and the new stadium is kiddy corner from the old. Also they are taking some of the seats from the old and incorporating them into the new. There is no way they could destroy Yankee Stadium.

Change is necessary in baseball, even eventually in Boston and Chicago. I will be there Opening Day 2008 at new Yankee Stadium!

HOW CAN YOU GET RID OF HISTORY LIKE THERE IS IN YANKEE STADIUM? MY SON IS 21 AND A HUGE FAN OF THE OLD TIME YANKEES LIKE BABE RUTH. THE NEW STADIUM WILL NOT BE "THE HOUSE THAT RUTH BUILT" IT WILL BE THE HOUSE THAT STEINBRENNER BUILT AND WRONGLY. DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW HE COULD TEAR DOWN THAT STADIUM AND I AM NOT EVEN A YANKEE FAN.

I think it is going to be kinda of empty for several months! Just kidding...I guess i kind of feel like you, but, I am glad they are trying to keep it like the old one....I , like you, hate the fact that "The House that Ruth built" may be destoyed...that place is legendary...It is almost like hearing the White House is beiing brought down for us sports fans.
