Why are conservatives getting more and more radical?

Question

I have many conservative views - pro-life, no flag burning, big military, gun rights for all americans.

But I would never call myself a conservative. The conservatives I know are so radical. And they seem fo be getting worse. By Barry Goldwater's standards I would be 100% conservative. What happened to the old conservative movement, when conservatives weren't so radical, afraid, paranoid, and judgemental?

The more society changes (ie abortion, civil rights, gay marriage, women working, etc.), the more fundamentalists are going to dig in their heels to keep things status quo.

This is especially true of certain groups who are having their time-honored (and therefore "traditional") privileges stripped away from them legally (because they won't remit voluntarily) to give all peoples the same opportunities in education, careers, and homelife.

Simply put, fundamentalists are afraid of change.

It's because conservatives are being proven to be right each day, more and more. Just look at the horrible terrorist activity in Iraq -- it proves beyond a doubt that President Bush was correct to bring the war to the extreme Muslims, instead of waiting for it to come here again. Thank God we have a heroic president who doesn't buckle to fickle public polls like a Democrat, and instead stands up for What Is Right.
In short, Conservatives have to be radical to counter the extreme ignorance of liberals.

Ya know, I think it's the Democrats that are just getting more egotistical and condescending. You can't talk about anything without some Democrat screaming about how crazy conservatives are. I don't think the conservative has changed, I just think left-wingers are more paranoid. "Dontchu judge me!!" ;-)

they forget that the majority of conservatives are actually against run-away government spending and pro-fiscal conservancy.
