Some of their things they have had for years and years so they treasure the memory that comes with it.You can't put a money value on something that is sentimental to you so they are probably just very disappointed that it's now gone.
It could be the last of a kind or something that belonged to them who was very close.
I'm sure even now you have a few old things hidden away that you would be disappointed if they were taken away from you.

Maybe because although its old it has sentimental value to them or that just the plain fact that you broke their stuff, old or new.
