Welshchic, thats why we, the ordinary people of this country need to write to Blair directly, and let him know we wont stand for this cr@p.

Well, why dont we all just sit on our backsides then, and let them get away with everything. No-one seems bothered or interested in doing anything to sort this problem out. Yeah, lets get like America and let people run round with guns and shoot innocent people, children in schools ect. THATS WHAT IT WILL GET LIKE UNLESS WE, THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, AND NOW

Whilst I love the sentiment behind this you cannot write to the PM stating "demanding tougher sentences, for violent criminals, murderers, child molesters, ect".
Etc means what exactly? Any politician will tear that apart and ignore it afterward a nice thank you for your concern letter is sent back, thats if they bother to reply.
It is best to send the letter to your constituency MP asking her or him to pressure the PM/ cabinet for tougher sentences. That way a record is created, your MP is obliged to reply and is also obliged to forward your letter with a covering note of some sort to the PM/ cabinet.
Afterall we elect our constituency MP's directly, we don't the PM.

Do you honestly believe that this will work?
How many articles a day do you read or hear about regarding some thug/drink driver/child molester etc getting a lenient sentence, sometimes involving death-Damilo Taylor's murderers today is an example-there is always some campaign going on. But how many have positive results?

No. The prisons are too full, and half the time don't work anyway, the number of ex-prisoners reoffending is far too high for it to be effective, we need to find new ways to deal with our criminals, ways that will work.
However, if you do believe that this is the answer, why not write to your local MP, it will probably be more effective than writing to Blair.

I have already stated views similar to yours on Yahoo Answers yesterday. I suggested using old passenger ferries as prison ships, as a short-term answer.
I work for the Criminal Courts system, so I need to remain aloof from individually signed action, such as letters to the PM, but you do have my full support.

I study this two times. the way you layer longer tale-correct prose is admirable, and something I even have plenty problem with. you're making it look common, organic, yet all people who write understand the different is genuine. I usually degree the effectiveness of a bite by the style of TD's........Jealousy rears that's green head. Kudos to you, Mr Carney.

yes i will write to him but i dont want him to waste our taxes on more prisons i think we should go back to putting these creatures on prison ships and sending them to australia ,well not australia now that its all civilized but there is plenty of room at the north pole to drop boat loads of murderers and child molesters off

The prisons are full to the Brim.
It is because prisoners are serving longer sentences.
I say cram the cells with four or five people. They are there to pay for their crime. A hotel is not what I want them too have.
