I am taking only basic gen. ed. classes right now but i'd like to take something that actually deals with accounting so i'll know if that's what i really want to do. Is there any particular class that might help me figure this out?

You could just go to the library and spend two hours reading an introductory accounting book.

Then grab any corporation's annual report (if you library has one) and read it from the Balance Sheet and Income statements in the middle of the report to the back cover. Pay very careful attention to the notes in the report. Bookkeeping is 90% of the process of producing those Balance Sheet and Income reports. Accounting is 90% of the process of writing those notes and writing the auditor's opinion. The longer the auditor's opinion, the more interesting the company and the more interesting the notes in the back of the annual report.

Anything written prior to the Balance Sheet and Income statements in the annual report is called Marketing. If you like what you read prior to the Income Statements and Balance Sheets, try Marketing instead.

Take the math class at your college for accounting. That will let you know if you are able to continue in the field or not.

take the class that is like the first accouting course. at my college it was Accounting I/ Financial....after that is Accounting II/ Managerial... then Intermediate, Cost, Computerized Accounting and so on.

At my college all Business majors had to take Accounting I and II so that would be a good place for you to start.
