A spider (though I can't count 6 on each leg) or perhaps a centipede (which doesn't have 100 legs, of course).

Sea urchins
(Echinoidea)

Also known as teh Sea Hedge hogs...They are Marine Invertabrates and walk on tube feet, which are pushed out through little holes. Some species walk on their spines. The mouth is underneath in the middle, and has five teeth with which the animal chews seaweed. There are 800 species of sea urchin.
Some sea urchins use their sharp spines for burrowing in sand and even in rock. Bathers treading on them can be injured. Some sea urchins have poisonous spines.

You do not want to step on one!

Believe it or not they are in some areas even harvested for commercial uses .
Urchins feed moslty on Algae and are a Prickly but Fave food of most otters! The otters play an important role in keeping Urchin numbers down.. If left unchecked Sea urchins take over thier watery home areas and really ruin the balance of the ecosystems where they live.

This is the only Animal I can think of that fits teh 48 knees.
