well, methinks it might have something to do with linking all those who disagree with you to a genuine (but defeated) threat from the past.

Name calling is commonly resorted to because the individual doing the name calling cannot actually come up with any cogent arguments to make his point. Its easier to vilify someone by attaching their party to a hated group, than to actually back up assertions with some sort of substantiation. That would require effort and intellectual acumen.
The assertion that Democrats are Communist, or as the respondent Jesi stated, are Socialist, is nothing short of a smear tactic. Yes, there maybe some Democrats that exist on the fringe of the party, who do hold sentiments that are akin to Marxist philosophy, but that does not warrant the demonizing of the entire party as Communist or Socialist. If you look at many within the Democratic Party, you will see they embody just as much of a capitalistic spirit as those within the Republican fold. You have just as many CEOs, bankers, independent business owners, and stock holders in the Democratic Party as you do in the Republican Party. These are hardly people who would hold hands with Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Joseph Stalin, or Lenin.
There are many with the ranks of the Republican Party, who hold views similar to white supremacists. Does that give me the right to call Republicans Nazis? Of course not. Any mature person should know better.

I am a republican. Let me just say that Liberals and Democrats are actually more like Socialists ( OK COMMIES ). They are brainwashed into believing a lot of things. I do not agree with everything that George W. Bush has done. But I do feel safe in the USA against Terrorist Attacks. And one more thing, Liberals will only make Society worse, they keep the poor, poor because they like to hand out my Tax money and call it welfare!

They support social reform, not to be confused with Socialist. Republicans have about wore out, that charge. IN the early 1900's the country turned to social reform to protect the weak and poor from unethical practices of big business. Election of senators 1912 turned the US senate from a millionaires club to an elected body answering to the people, with the plight of the citizens taken to Washington, changed the politics of Washington

Liberals are not Communists (or at least, not all of them). Communist regimes are usually very oppressive and favour the person in power (Castro, Kim Jung IL, Mao, Etc.) There are no elections and the leaders get away with anything they want. Liberals are socialists. They want America to be blamed for everything that's wrong with the world. they look at someone committing a crime as an expression of free speech to be lauded and protected. They think that if you earn $5.00 more than the guy who lives next door, you should fork over $2.50 so he'll feel better about himself. They want huge government to take care of everyone so that there will be no incentive to go out and fend for yourself. That way you won't make the lazy bastardos jealous or give them feelings of inferiority. They even think that brie and chablis is better than Bar-B-Que and beer. Poor delusional fools.

Liberal is considered a curse word because repubs appeal to dumb people who will follow whatever they say. I am a liberal because I want for everyone equality, peace and justice. I want people to THINK, not follow the herd. And we are called commies because it scares the aforementioned dumb people into not voting for one who may be a liberal. Conservatives (are supposed to) represent the religious folk...anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-pedophile which is conveniently associated to being a gay person??? WHOOO HOO!!
Basicly, conservatives are good at scaring people and will always try.

hmmmm probably because "conservatives" don't know what communism really is as they certainly don't know what being "conservative" is anymore. but it seems the reason today's "conservatives" call "liberals" communists is because it's considered an insult. the "new conservatives, the neoCONs" bad mouth "liberals because they feel social programs for the poor is a bad thing, very unchristian and anti-American whereas corporate welfare is a good thing because CEOs need their multi million dollar pensions and big corporations need tax breaks and loopholes so they can better outsource jobs to India. and "liberals" are bad because they want to keep the Constitution intact whereas "conservatives" want to rip all the meaning out of it so as to make it lawful to further their personal financial agendas. and silly "liberals" don't think it's a good thing to imprison people without due process and torture them whereas "conservatives" feel it's fine to imprison and torture people as long as those people are affixed with the right label "enemy combatant".
see? "Liberals" are people who want to conserve The Constitution, basic human dignity, the Earth's resources and America's reputation in the world community.
"Conservatives" want to conserve the status quo for the mega wealthy.

It's just name calling - kind of like how some liberals call conservatives Nazis. You pick the most extreme example of a viewpoint, and then claim that anyone who holds a milder version is that.

Because they're trying to scare you into voting Republican. It's not true but many conservatives today have no personal honor. It's certainly fine to have views that people follow and state them-should make a person question them if they're making things up!

well, I'll spell it out. Because the Libs answer to everything is throw money at it. My hard earned money to be exact. Poor people, throw money at it, no health care, throw money at it, need some food because you spent all your money that they threw at ya for welfare, throw money at it. All those are social programs, The root word of socialist is (Social) which is the next step to communism. Communism is a failure, so why on earth would anyone be dumb enough to go down that road. Libs wanna go down that road!
