You can keep Mylanta in the fridge. It's safe. (My hospital gives it to women in labor.) Something about the cold in addition to the antacid seems to help, and you can take it as often as you need to.
With your OB's OK, you can take 150mg of Zantac twice a day. (You can buy Zantac over the counter, now.)
And, if all else fails, get a prescription for or some samples of Prevacid. That's what I ended up doing, when the Zantac wasn't enough, and I never had another problem with heartburn. I took it up until the day I delivered, both times, and then quit.

Stop with the "home remedy's". It's the acid in your stomach causing the problem so you need something like prilosec that stops the acid before it gets too bad. Tums works after the problem sometimes. You have a completely different problem. The only thing you can do without going to a store is eat things that are easy on the stomach. Try some green tea if you have some ( regular is fine too ) with a piece of toast. If you don't have any nausea then just eat food that's not fried or hard to digest. Cream soups, pudding, and things like that. You need to eat to make sure the acid has something to work on for tonight. Tomorrow get some OTC prilosec or anything else that works on the acid before it starts. If you have a regular pharmacist then ask them what they recommend. They will already know any prescriptions you take and can advise you what would be best for you. Good luck and God Bless

i tried the tums thing too and it was working at first but i think either my body has become immuned to them since i take about 4 at a time or my heartburn is getting worse. it's weird too because you would think the later you get in your pregnancy the better it would get but it hasn't yet and i'm gong on 34 weeks. the shortness of breath also has not gotten much better. i don't know if it's because my son is so big he's constantly pressing on whatever causes these things or he just hasn't dropped yet. hopefully he's not that big. i mean last time i went to the doctor which was 2 weeks ago, i had an ultrasound done and he only weighed 4 lbs 1oz which the doc said was normal.

Try not drinking while you eat, and sit upright (back straight as you can get it) for at least 30 mins after each meal. I had to do this b/c the fluids made the food in my stomach too liquidy, and it refluxed really easy. I stopped drinking with meals, and ate tons of starchier foods (like mashed potatoes, steamed rice and pasta) with each meal. It worked great, expecially later on when the baby left no room in my abdomen for my stomach. I had killer heartburn from this for weeks... Just be sure you drink enough (milk is best b/c of the way it neutralizes acid) between meals so that you get enough hydration. Dehydration can cause stomach problems too.

Eat small and frequent meals. Pay attention to see if certain foods bother you more than others. Keep a little something on your stomache at all times. I ate the Tums like candy with my first two kids as well.

Baking soda and water works well. Just put a teaspoon of baking soda to a full glass of water and drink the whole thing at once. It neutralizes the acid and helps calm your stomach at the same time. My mom's been doing it for years, even when she was pregnant.

Gaviscon is good, but again,. you might want to buy the pharmacy out of all it's stock.
Has you doctor recommended anything? That way, you can get it on prescription and not have to spend your money because it will be free.
Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy!
