How do I get the best out of my laptop? Its got an intel centrino duo processor T2300, I gb of ram, a dedicated 128mb ati radeon mobility x1400 graphics card, an 80gb sata drive, and a dvd multi format recordable drive. Its running windows xp. Any tips or tweaks for best performance? Its mainly used for a bit of music, the odd game, surfing and photographs. It does everything ok, but I wonder if it could be a little better. Any ideas?

you can tailor the startup options and kill all un-necessary startup applications. most new laptops come with bundled software that are in alot of cases a waste of system resources. type msconfig from a command prompt and go to startup and disable any startup processes that are not system processes. don't touch anything in the other tabs unless you know what you are doing!

Keeping a Laptop plugged into the mains will result in Battery degradation. You have a very nice Laptop, ensure it has the right level of protection i.e. Anti-Virus and spyware protection and enjoy! No need for tweeks!

I know this isn't going to be a best answer! but keeping it plugged in to the mains to ensure it always runs on full power is a start! (makes a mockery of the whole laptop idea though!)

Make sure you run up to date anti virus & spyware progs. Defrag etc & clear cache & cookies on a regular basis.
You can also reduce the number of programmes at start up.

Talk to it nicely... and before you laugh, remember this:

Everything you take for granted, everything you own, every single item you possess, was made from living things that either walked on legs, or grew and fell beneath the land and lay for centuries until we mined and reused them all.

And so, everything you touch is made of spiritual energy, millions of them.

So speak to them kindly, respect the work they do for you, your computer, car, table, chairs, you name them, they all work for you... and if you keep this always in your mind and thank them for being there for you, they seldom fail you.
