ive heard good stuff bout them and i was just wonderin if i wanted to get into them what should i start with? and i am a definite metal head...trash i my fav...best bands metallica, marylin manson, iron maiden, slayer, amongest others but if that helps answer the question use it.

Excellent question, impossible answer.
They are all so different. Aenima is the easy answer here, because it is so well made and easy to understand.
Personally, I think every album they make is better than the last. 10,000 days is my fav right now. It takes quite a while to get into though. Read the lyrics and the do the research (this is true of all Tool albums), and most importantly, be patient with it. It's not going to hit you over the head.
Oh, and throw your Metallica away.

My favorite Tool album is Aenima. I like all of their work, but I think the worst album is Undertow. Their new album, 10,000 days, is awesome. Maynard is a genius. Start with their older stuff, Tool is an acquired taste.

Start with "Opiate", move to "AEnima" and go from there. You can't go wrong with Tool.
