Mailing Preferences just gets rid of companies who do mass mail-outs and pay the post office. The junk mail you get is not mailed directly to you, it's anonymous 'to the householder' or 'occupier' and your local postman gets paid a commission for the number of leaflets he can deliver. Tell him you don't want them and if he says he will lose money just tell him you are trying to save the planet!!!
However, as for the trees - paper is manufactured from pine trees grown specifically for this purpose in Northern Europe and Canada. For every tree cut down, two are planted. New trees are far more efficient at removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than old trees. Therefore the 'paper trees' are good for the environment. On the other hand 'recycled paper' goes through a process with such powerful chemicals to remove the print ink that the residue by-product would rot the soles off your trainers! Talk to your postman!

WITHOUT A DOUBT! The Post Office are now part of the problem. They are posting unsolicited mail. That's a brilliant idea. I was in the process of composing a snot-o-gram to the Post Office. This method of yours will save me the angst of replying to their standard customer pacifying letters. If anyone else is reading this, do as J J suggests and post the junk mail the Post office deliver (ie stuff without stamps or franks on them) into your nearest post box. Let the revolution begin!

So do away with the USPS, and only who will furnish that mail on your doorstep? do you recognize why they are going broke? on the coronary heart of the problem is a 2006 Congressional mandate placed on the US Postal provider interior the “Postal accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006” to pre-fund healthcare advantages of destiny retirees, a seventy 5 12 months criminal accountability over a ten 12 months era. No different employer or company is had to do this. This provision expenditures the Postal provider $5.5 billion a 12 months. once you upload in an adjustment that replaced into made in how workers’ repayment expenditures have been calculated in accordance with interest fee assumptions and long term predictions concerning well-being care and repayment of $2.5 billion (a non money accounting adjustment), you come back up with $8 billion in fee. particularly loss replaced into $500 million and whilst further, is composed of the $8.5 billion mentioned for 2010. mutually as $500 million is a lot, it doesn’t evaluate with $8.5 billion and is down from the previous 12 months loss of $a million billion. in case you took out the exhausting pre-investment mandate, the Postal provider definitely shows a $seven-hundred million income over the final 4 years as a exchange of the $20 billion loss. The Postal Union has been attempting to get Congress to authorize the circulate of the Postal provider’s money envisioned to be between $50 billion and $seventy 5 billion overpaid in the Civil provider Retirement equipment transferred into the PSRHBF.

Write a letter to the postmaster general expressing your disgust at their contempt towards your wishes. Don't be offensive but do use words like disgust and contempt to get the message across. Mention that until recently you were happy with their standard of service but now you have seen those standards woefully decline exponentially.
By doing this not only will you feel better but there is a slim chance their service will improve.
I always shred and recycle junk mail.

Mail preference only stops junk mail that is addressed to you, but if the mail is addressed to the householder it will still come through your letter box. As we are required by law to recycle this rubbish, the answer is to repost these items into the G.P.O. mail boxes and see how they like it.
