why are people these days so mean and rude?

As opposed to, say, the 1940s when they burned you for being a Jew, gay, a Gypsy or an intellectual if you lived in Europe?

As opposed to, say, 1960s Mississippi where they shot you if you were black and wanted to vote?

When, exactly, were people less rude?

There have always been mean and rude people, so don't think this is a new problem. We do have a growing problem, however.

This is the information age. People are overexposed to knowledge of other people's problems, both real and imagined (mostly imagined). They have become de-sensitized to real problems and real people. The media permeates our culture so much, we now imitate what we see in the media, which is constantly trying to get your attention. They use the most outlandish and bizzare behavior because they know it will catch your attention. Unfortunately, too many people do not see it for what it is and falsely assume that such behavior is appropriate, acceptable, amusing, or expected.

Many people are no longer taught the traditions and beliefs of our great ancestors who knew how to behave for the benefit of society and the blessing of God. They have banned all mention of God and leave many students empty inside with regard to charity and morality.

Your challenge is to show them the other side of the coin. Most people mature and realize that there is something in missing in their life. Help them see that it's still acceptable to be nice and polite by being a good example. It's not an easy thing to do, but if you'll exercise faith in what's good, together we can stand up to these misguided souls and make a difference.

I don't think it has much to do with "these days". There are and always have been rotten people in this world. To me it just seems like there's more of 'em...breeders, I think. Breeders of ignorance passed on from generation to geneation in most cases. Don't let the boogers get ya down, though.
