I have 2 green puffers, one molly, one swordtail, 5 tetras, and an algae eater. I added a male and female guppy the day before yesterday, I got up yesterday morning and my male guppy was dead, and it's tail had been all torn up. I assumed it died and then they just tryed to eat it then. Then this morning I got up and saw my female had her tail completely eaten off and she was dead. All my others are fine. I added the puffers the same day, the others I have had a long time. Which of these fish is being mean? I guess I can't have guppies with them. :(

It was definately your puffers, as they are what some people call "fin nippers!" Tetras can be aggressive, but for them to die that quickly it's definately your puffer fish, as it would take tetras days to eat away at a guppies fin. The only reason the puffers haven't done that to any of your other fish is because they can't catch them as your other fish can swim faster than the puffer fish.

Puffers as a general rule are aggressive. Also, keep in mind that many fish become aggressive when space is an issue. You listed several fish, and depending on the size tank you have, that may be causing a problem with agression.

Depends on what kind of Tetra's you have, generally they're a placid type fish and my suspicions went straight for the puffers. Try mixing up the landscape in the tank a bit to resolve any territorial battles that may be happening in the tank.

What size of tank do you have could be a problem as well.

Certain tetras, especially serpae tetras, are notorous fin-nippers, but it depends on your type. But, I have heard from many sources that puffers can be very aggressive, and they are meat eaters.

I would think the tetras. I have had swordtails and guppies together before without issues.

some kinds of tetra's can be agressive to fish that are smaller than themselves. I'd say one of them is the problem child
