Apart from the fact that they should not have the right to regulate private affairs, it's because marriage is a state-regulated, not federally-regulated institution.

Because it is their perview to define domestic law. Adittionally why would it be acceptable for a state with a huge population like New York or California make the decisions about Gay Marriage for a low population state like Nebraska?

because issues about homosexuality are a matter for certain religions. the USA is a nation wherein neither it nor the state govts can institute religious practices into law for the sole justification that some members of a religion want that practice enforced into law. the govt has no place saying jon and jane can marry but jon and bill can't. it's absurd. and it's a discrimination with huge financial consequences and huge consqequences in matters of children, health, and inheritance.

To support the unalienable rights of U.S. citizens.

To further re-enforce the concepts of fairness and the philosophy of autonomony with regards to the power of government over individuals.

To purposely foil the attempts of special interest groups that would have to obey the law.

To expand rights of individuals rather than deny them.

What's a matter with insuring one more American with health insurance, giving another American a tax-break,giving another class of legal citizenry what they deserve?

I could care less what people or religious entities think of gays regarding their homosexual practices---I care about the individual rights of American citizens!!

We are a nation of laws where the religions are not supposed to have a say in determining. Gat rights is a religious issue. They should have the right to live with whoever thay want. They should have the right to put each other on insurance and in each others wills.

Because as a straight person, there is no federal office which grants marriage licenses. What makes a homosexual any more special than me? They can get in line, like the rest of us.

It's a state issue. Not a federal one. In fact, marriage shouldn't be up to our government at all, really. I thought I lived in the land of the free?

Because states should be able to make whatever laws they want...that is what this country was founded on...The United States...
