Consumer Reports rates Dell more reliable than Gateway based on surveys of thousands of people

Our company has had both Gateway and Dell laptops. We have had less strange break-downs with the Dells. We always had a lot of problems with Gateway.

Dell laptops. Gateways are slow and crash all the time. My friend had a gateway laptop, and it was slow and crashed all the time. He got a dell laptop and it was fast and hardly ever crashed.
Do some research on the dell laptops and the gateway laptops and compare the results.

I think, Gateway is better than Dell

I have had corporate agreements with both companies and would have recommended Dell until about a year ago. The quality of their products and support have deteriorated in my opinion...problems I attribute to cost cutting and outsourcing.

I suggest you look at Sam's Club and purchase the extended warranty for repair or replacement. You will save money on the laptop and get a GOOD extended warranty at a fraction of the prices from major retailers or manufacturers.

Dear RIchard,
Good question. I would say Dell. I own a computer repair shop and replacement parts (even warranty repalcements) for GW are almost IMPOSSIBLE to get. Even hard drives!
FWIW, I sell the Acer line with virtual impunity. They build a great machine because they own their own factories and even make their own screen glass. Being a small, independent shop I cannot afford to sell problematic laptops.
I also sell B2B Sony which I feel are better than the ones Sony sells thru Sony Style.
Hope this helps.

I prefer Dell because they have a better selection. But, for reliability, it depends more on the particular model that you select. Make sure you read reviews for the exact computer you're considering. For example, try www.cnet.com for reviews.

I own both and they are great.

Service is another story. Dell wins hands down.
