Why is it that men always have to hide behind the bravado act, even when they know they just want to really let go and wear their heart on their sleeve, and show the world how sensitive they really are?......

Anthony V is right.
If man wear heart on their sleeve, girls will flocks to him only when they want or need something. Once they get it, they leave and go out with a a55hole guys until their heart get break then they come back to the same man and cry to him then repeat.
So if you want a man that actually show you kindness and care then stop go to him only when you want things and stop make up excuses such as "I value our friendship too much" and start go out with him and give him a chance.

It's not my experience that *all* men "always" behave any particular way. I've been privileged to know a number of men who've worked really hard to be aware of and express their feelings. Becoming "emotionally literate" can certainly be a challenge for men who've been thoroughly socialized to believe that "real men" don't cry or whatever. But it's far from impossible, even for men with many years of repressed emotion under their belts, if (a) they want to change and (b) they can find environments and/or people who make it safe for them to "let go" and show their sensitivity.

because in America we males can get targeted for abuse of all kinds from other boys/men, including our fathers, for "wearing our hearts on our sleeves", that is, showing vulnerability, which many boys/ men see as weakness.
After all, the United States did not conquer America from coast to coast with a lot of "sensitive" males. It was the brutal men that conquered America.

I think that most men are raised to push their emotions aside. That's really too bad for them in my opinion and shame on the parents who deny their children the right to own their emotions!

Because the truth is that most men of modern culture's fear the judgement and sterotype's deemed them by their peers and others.
A 'true' Man is not afraid to express his emotions and to defend those oppressed.
But that requires courage to stand for something and not care what your buddies think about you!
